Chat permissions became a platform problem, not a feature request.
This project was a platform-level effort at Mighty Networks focused on giving communities control over private messaging. What surfaced as a moderation concern required rethinking how communication permissions work across a multi-tenant system.
Private messaging became a business risk.
Moderation gaps surfaced in communities with minors, while high-profile members faced unmanageable message volume—blocking enterprise adoption without clearer controls.
I was responsible for system mapping, interaction design, and proposing a phased rollout that enabled the feature to ship safely, in collaboration with product, engineering, and QA.
